We try and design our itineraries around things that we enjoy. We have created a 10 day experience that gives your family the chance to work and play together in an extraordinary environment, rich in culture and new experiences. We have kept this itinerary uncomplicated as we also have families and understand that sometimes a timetable is the last thing you need. We also feel that often the really rewarding experiences are the simple moments where you just get time together, as a family, away from it all.
The activities we have chosen are both educational and exciting and will enable you and your family to immerse in the culture of Kenya, with opportunities to view culture and wildlife.
Our camp has a total of 10 beds and this trip is suitable for children over the age of 4 and adults of all ages (i.e. you can bring Grandma if you like!).

Day 1, Mombasa - Mukurumuji Camp - Arrive at Mombasa Airport where you will be met by a member of our team and transferred via a short scenic drive to Mukurumuji Camp in the Sable Valley for lunch. In the afternoon you will visit the local community and school and participate in our school and community development programme - it's great to see your kids playing alongside the local children. After dinner you will be given a basic Swahili lesson and don't be too disappointed when your children to straight to the top of the class! (BLD)
Day 3, Cultural day - In the morning we will visit a traditional local homestead of the coastal Swahili people, led by a specialist guide for a 'hands on' cultural experience. This could include basket weaving, roof thatching, and local food harvesting, preparation and cooking techniques. In the afternoon you & your children will learn all about goat herding skills and assist the local community in their techniques, this is one of those simple 'life moments' we mentioned earlier! (BLD)
Day 4, Projects and Wildlife - In the morning you will continue your participation in the local volunteer programme at the school, followed by an interesting afternoon with our local guide, teaching you all about Reptile, Bird & Mammal Identification. (BLD)
Day 5, Shimba Hills National Reserve & Mwaluganje Elephant Safari - This beautiful Reserve of lush scenery has a unique and botanically rich coastal rainforest. It is most famous for its Sable Antelope that are found nowhere else in Kenya and is also a haven for the endangered Angolan Black and White Colobus Monkey. We enjoy a Game drive and a picnic lunch before transferring to Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary. The Sanctuary boasts the highest density (per km 2 ) of elephants in Africa. We will learn during game drives about elephant behaviour and the threats they face. (BLD)

The Projects
Every time someone books with us we use a proportion of the money to fund our projects. There is no room for us to act as politicians; it’s all about results. If we commit to a community partnership and say we will do something; we do it. It does mean that we are not the cheapest option, but for all the right reasons.
Please note that the projects that you will undertake may occasionally vary from the itinerary due to sudden changes in priorities or feasibility.
Community Projects
Mukurumuji
The Mukurumuji community programme was launched in November 2005 and is named after the river that runs through our camp (Mukurumuji meaning 'where people meet' in Swahili). Majimboni is the nearest village and is situated on the edge of Shimba Hills National Reserve. Over 60% of the inhabitants in this area are living below the poverty line.
Most of our work is based at Steven Kanja Primary School Read More...
Wildlife Projects
Mwaluganje
We have launched a wildlife project in partnership with Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary in the Shimba Hills. The Elephant Sanctuary is a community-based program, where by local people have “leased” their property to a community based trust, which manages the sanctuary for the benefit and preservation of the elephants. It also provides valuable revenue for the landowners and local people, realised through eco-tourism and gate entrance fees. Read More...

Where You Stay
Camp Mukurumuji
Camp Mukurumuji (Mu-ku-roo-moo-ji) is our second community and wildlife project camp. The camp is situated at the foothills of Shimba Hills National Reserve and is named after the Mukurumuji River (Where People meet) which flows through the property. Partnership programs with the local community as well as the Sable Valley Wildlife Sanctuary compliment the rather more luxurious "Old Style" safari feel of the camp. The camp is totally surrounded by an ancient, impressive and unfortunately now very rare equatorial rain forest. ...[Read More]
Camp Tsavo
Camp Tsavo is located in Rukinga ranch, directly south of Tsavo East National Park, and is our biggest and most ambitious wildlife project to date. This ecosystem is home to a large diversity of flora and fauna, many species of which are classified by IUCN (the World Conservation Union) as vulnerable, threatened or endangered, and boasts a large population of predators, especially lions.
